While there is an eclipse passing over Nashville on August 21, that’s not the only reason that locals are excited about the week of 8/21-27. That’s because it’s also one of two times during the year that diners celebrate local independent restaurants during Nashville Restaurant Week.

The event is organized by the Nashville Originals, a confederation of more than 60 locally-owned restaurants who band together to draw attention to the city’s independent restaurant scene. Twice a year, the restaurants offer special prix fixe menus at discounted prices to encourage diners to come in for a visit during Restaurant Week.
Among our favorites participating this year are Chef Jason McConnell’s Cork & Cow and Red Pony, Jimmy Kelly’s Steak House, East Nashville wine bar Rumours East, The Row Kitchen & Pub in Midtown, and Tin Angel and Valentino’s Ristorante, both on West End. You can find the menus for all the participating restaurants at the official Nashville Restaurant Week website, and the list is being updated continually.

Most of the restaurants are offering a three course meal of app/salad, main course and dessert, and two of the entrees that caught our eye are the Chicken and Sausage Spaetzle with local squash, eggplant and cajun broth at Red Pony and Jimmy Kelly’s where they are serving an entire Springer Mountain Farms Chicken with potatoes and a corn cake. Come hungry!
