Eat Like the Locals in Charlotte

The PGA Championship is in town and the Queen City is hopping! What if you aren’t interested in golf, though? What if you just want a good glass of wine and a few wee bites? Here are a few fave spots with the locals:

Corkbuzz

A hit with many in SouthPark, Corkbuzz offers a solid variety of small plates and entrees from Chef Allen Evans for lunch and dinner and of course, wines from all over the world. Want to learn all about wine? The spot offers classes and dinners often led by vintners themselves, and their entire staff is highly knowledgeable about the mighty grape. Make sure to check their website before you go to learn about upcoming wine dinners and classes...many times their owner and Master Sommelier Laura Maniec is in the house for them.

JSam’s

Right down the road from Corkbuzz, JSam’s is a great spot for wine, art and music lovers. Any given night here might offer drink specials, live music and/or an art show at this popular watering hole in Piedmont Town Center. You can go a bit more fancy and order their house made pasta featuring local ingredients or their beef tenderloin with creamed grilled Swiss chard or keep it simple with a selection of local cheeses and meats and a bottle of wine. And, they have plenty to choose from. Art lovers, make sure to check out their website for art shows they have coming down the pike.

Dilworth Tasting Room

Still kinda new to the scene, Jaffer Kovic’s Dilworth Tasting Room has taken off as a fun neighborhood spot that is fantastic for an after work drink or meet up with friends. Wines are plentiful here as are small plates and sweets that are perfect for sharing. Prefer to sip your vino outside? DTR’s patio out back cannot be beat.

Foxcroft Wine Co.

Come early and stay late - kinda how it always goes for many at Foxcroft. There are two locations in Charlotte, one in Dilworth on East Blvd and one in SouthPark on Fairview. The vibe at both is so laid back that it’s hard not to lose track of time as you sample their multitude of artisanal wines and/or their selection of olives, flatbreads and bruschettas. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for upcoming wine tastings and dinners.

Vintner Wine Market

Located in the Arboretum in South Charlotte, Vintner Wine Market is wee but big fun. Their menu is locally sourced and offers seasonal salads, artisanal meats and cheeses, sandwiches and more as well as draft beers and wines by the glass or bottle. Beer dinners, tap takeovers and wine tastings are common here as is live music.
