The most recent in the spate of Nashville restaurant openings is a unique project with an even more unusual name. Caviar & Bananas is a small chain of hybrid restaurant/retail locations based out of Charleston, SC. The new outpost in the Aertson Midtown at 2031 Broadway is the fifth for the chain and the first one located outside of South Carolina.
Co-founders and owners Margaret and Kris Furniss came up with the name and concept in an effort to create an environment where customers could discover both mundane staples and splurge items. They have succeeded in their attractive new space in the ground floor of the massive Aertson complex. In addition to dining in for breakfast, lunch, dinner, small plates and weekend brunch, patrons can shop the shelves for prepared foods made using responsible ingredients, house-made salads and sandwiches, pastries, cheeses and charcuterie. On the liquid side, there is a full assortment of teas, coffee, espresso plus a wine bar and craft beers. It’s also a great place to buy a pre-packaged gift basket or build one on your own.
The Furnisses are very happy to be in Music City. “With four successful locations in South Carolina, Margaret and I began looking for other possible cities in the South. Our decision was truly an easy one. Based on the growth of Nashville and the vibrancy of its expanding culinary scene, we wanted to be a part of Music City,” said Kris Furniss. “It’s also Margaret’s home state, so this is a special move for us. We’ve assembled a talented team in Nashville and are excited to bring our C&B staples with a Nashville flair. We will be featuring a new wine bar with delicious made to order small plates options that are exclusive to this location.”
For grab-and-go or dining in, Caviar & Bananas should prove to be a welcome new option for the growing Midtown neighborhood.
